Free Plan (No Cost)

Teachable’s Free Plan is a good option for those just starting to dip their toes into the online course business.

With this free plan, you can sell one course, and enjoy unlimited students, integrated payment processing, and an integrated website and builder.

The Free plan charges $1 plus 10% per transaction for selling online courses.

Overall, this Teachable plan is very limited, but if you’re someone who is brand new to creating online courses, the free plan can be a good way to get your feet wet while you gain some experience in the field.

Basic Plan at $39 a month ($29 per month when billed annually)

The Teachable Basic Plan gives you the tools to get your first online course up and running. Unlimited students, unlimited courses, and access to the full range of Teachable’s third party integrations means you can have a viable online course business in place at this entry monthly price.

As key features like students and video are unlimited, you can comfortably use this Basic plan with a growing audience without having to upgrade. The key reason for upgrading to the Professional Plan will revolve around paying transaction fees.

The Basic plan charges 5% per transaction for paid courses while Professional charges nothing. Once you see your transaction fees go over $60 per month, it is time to upgrade. This is because it now costs you less to pay for the Professional plan ($99) than the Teachable Basic Plan ($39) plus transaction fees ($60+).

Some other benefits of the Professional plan are captured in the next section.

Professional Plan at $119 per month ($99 per month when billed annually)

In addition to charging no transaction fees at the Professional tier, you also get the expected upgrades of a higher software subscription tier. Advanced reporting is offered at this price plan which means you can analyze metrics on unlimited courses, customers, videos and upsells.

The Teachable brand name can be removed from your pages so you can solely promote your own brand. Admin user access is also increased to 5 so small businesses can utilise different authors as their team grows.

As is standard, you will get priority support from the Teachable support team with this plan. This means your queries will be given preference over Basic plan customers.

Business Plan at $299 per month ($249 per month when billed annually)

The one key difference at the Teachable Business Plan tier is the admin users allowed. Instead of 5 with Professional, you can have 100 admin level users. This Plan is therefore at larger businesses where multiple online teachers and course creators will be using the platform.

The only other discernible difference with Teachable’s Business Plan is a feature to bulk import students. This would be advantageous for a business with a large audience already set up online or in an internal database.

Alternatives To Teachable

Teachable is comprehensive and comes with a ton of features for online course creators, such as integrated email marketing, advanced reporting and analytics, well-designed templates, and more. However, Teachable doesn’t have an extensive community and lacks in a few other areas as well.

For these reasons, you may want to look at some alternatives to Teachable and other online course platforms such as:

  • Kajabi – Kajabi is an end-to-end platform that creates a customer journey and experience, right from the time a person visits your landing page to becoming a loyal customer enjoying discounts. Read Teachable vs Kajabi for more.

  • Thinkific – Thinkific has advanced features such as bulk question upload, powerful page builder, ability to sell bulk courses, and more. Find out more in out Teachable vs Thinkific article.
  • Podia- Podia is well-known for its customer support and it is simple to use as well. There are no content restrictions and you own the data you generate on the platform. We assessed the differences in our Teachable vs Podia article linked here.
