Skool Pricing & Plans: Is It Worth It?

Skool is a comprehensive online platform designed to facilitate the creation, management, and engagement of learning communities, offering tools for course creation, interactive discussions, and community building in a collaborative environment. And with straightforward pricing at $99 a month per group, the platform makes it easy for creators to get up and running.
But is the cost worth it for you?
Read on as I offer an in-depth analysis of Skool pricing and what you get for it.

Skool costs $99 per month per group. Skool also offers a 14-day free trial. You can use this period to evaluate if this tool is a good fit for your needs.
If you choose to have more than one group, you’ll have to pay another $99 a month.
There is a 2.9% transaction fee on sales, but when you compare that to a lot of other platforms where fees range from 5-15%, this is pretty reasonable.
What I really like is that the pricing is simple. A lot of other course platforms have complicated plans with multiple options, so it can get a bit confusing to figure out what you actually need and what you don’t.
With Skool, there’s just one plan, and you can access all the features without limitations on users or courses.
It all sounds good on the surface, but is it actually worth it? To answer this question, we must know what a group means and what you can do with it.
How Skool Works?
Skool is an online content and distribution platform that works differently from other platforms I’ve tested. It’s not a pure online course creation platform, rather it’s a combination of three things:
As a content creator, your first step is to create a group on Skool.
You can imagine a group as a container that has a community, a classroom, and a calendar.
A community is similar to your Facebook page, and even has the same look and feel. You can have members in your community and they can post and interact with each other. Like Facebook, members can also like, comment, and see a post. Skool’s community-driven nature is what really separates it from the other course platforms.
A classroom is where you can have your online courses. There’s no limit on the number of courses you can create and host within a group.
Each course can have multiple modules and your students can mark a course as complete once they have gone through it.

However, note that Skool doesn’t natively host videos, which means, you have to host the videos on another platform like Vimeo and only add the link to the course.
On each course or module page, your members can have discussions about the content. They can also ask questions that you can answer for them.
The third component is a calendar, where you can have a group event that can be attended by all members of your community. Also, you can have 1:1 coaching sessions or group sessions, all of which are scheduled and offered through the calendar.
Members can view the group calendar in their local timezone to know what sessions are happening and when. They can view the calendar by month, week, or year.
There’s no limit on the number of group events or coaching sessions you can have within a group. Some groups, for example, have one or two Ask Me Anything (AMA) or Q&A sessions per week.
Note that you can host these sessions on any platform. As soon as a member decides to sign up for an event or coaching, the event is automatically added to their calendar. At the time of the event, they can simply copy-paste the link and navigate to the platform where you’re hosting the event.
In all, a group allows you to have a community, host as many courses as you want, and schedule events and sessions for the entire group.
But is this group worth the $99 per month price tag?
Let’s see what makes Skool unique when compared to other course creation platforms.
More than a Course Content Platform
From the above discussion, it’s clear that Skool is not just a content platform.
Traditionally, you will have an LMS platform for hosting your courses and a Facebook, Discord, or Slack channel for interacting with your members and answering their questions. With Skool, you can have it all in a single place to make your entire content creation and interaction process quick and seamless.
When you create an event and want visibility, you will post it across different groups on Facebook or use other means to gain visibility for your offering. But with Skool, you get this visibility automatically.
More importantly, there’s a higher chance for your members to sign up for your event because they are interested in your offerings and that’s why they are in your group in the first place. It also means you don’t have to look for the right people who may be interested in what you offer.
From members’ standpoint, this unified scheduling makes it easy to know when an event they are interested in is happening, and that too in their timezone. This convenience and readily available information greatly increases the chances for them to sign up for an event.
With Skool, you only need a single platform, and your members need only a single login to learn all that you have to offer. Also, it provides an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and learn things that matter to them. All this leads to higher engagement rates because Skool offers a community-like feel where your audience can interact with each other.

When members earn more points, they move up through levels. Additionally, there are also leaderboards within the group for seven days, 30 days, and all time. Members want to be on the leaderboard to have credibility and to get to the leaderboard, they must post meaningful content to earn points.
Depending on your business goals, you can even award prizes to the top members of your leaderboard every month to acknowledge their efforts and motivate them further. It also motivates other members to contribute.
Overall, this system encourages members to post the content that other members want, thereby creating an interactive community that adds value to everyone. As more people join your community, it increases your credibility as well, resulting in higher revenue for your content business.
You can use Skool to chat with someone or even send direct messages to start a conversation. This member doesn’t have to be within your group but can be anyone. This option allows you to reach out to more Skool users and sell your group to them. You can even send files within your chat conversations.
Besides chats, you also get notifications. Like Facebook and other social media platforms, you can see the notifications on the right-hand corner of your profile. When you click the bell, you can see the notifications across all the groups that you are a part of. When you click the notification, it takes you to the associated comment or page.
If you don’t check notifications, Skool can also email you a digest of your notifications including the top posts of each group. This email digest is sent once a day or a week to ensure that you don’t miss out on important things.
Skool allows you to know more about every member of your group. You can click on a member’s user profile. If you’re the admin, a graph at the top shows how engaged this member was and what activities that he/she was involved in. This information can help you better understand what interests each member, so you can tailor your offerings accordingly.
Also, you can see the following things on each member’s profile:
- Points earned and the current level
- Courses taken and progress in each course
- Location and timezone
- Posts and comments
- Member since
- A brief bio
- Whether currently online
- Contributions to the group
- Number of people following the user.
- Number of people the user follows.
These informative user profiles can provide a better idea of the background and demographics of each member. Based on this information, you can tailor content that would appeal to them, leading to more growth and revenue.
Skool’s search feature is powerful and comprehensive. For example, when you type a keyword, you can see all the comments in your group that have the keyword you entered. Also, you can see all the courses and modules within your group that contain this keyword. Plus, you can see all the members who have the keyword on their user profile. Such versatility ensures that you can quickly find all that you want.
Intuitive User Interface
All the above features are offered through a simple and intuitive user interface that has no complex learning curve, making Skool ideal for users of all backgrounds.
For example, when you want to add a post, simply add a title to where it says “title”, and start composing the text in the place where it says “body.” Additionally, you can add any kind of file, links, or videos by pasting a link from YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, and Loom, and emojis. You can also create polls through your posts.
A standout feature is that you can even send your post as an email broadcast to all members of your group. This post will look like a newsletter email and members can also click the link to see your post on Skool.
Email broadcast is a powerful feature as it ensures that your message reaches every member of your group, even the ones that are not actively involved in Skool. Moreover, this option is highly helpful when you want members to RSVP for an event.
With Skool, you can create multiple groups with the same account, though you will have to pay a $99 monthly fee for every group you create. You can even choose to keep a group public or private.
Note that there’s no cost to be a Skool user, but you have to pay if you want to create a group. Similarly, if Skool users want to join your group, they have to pay the membership fee you decide for the group. In this sense, Skool groups act as membership sites where people can access valuable information by paying a certain fee.
Now that we’ve analyzed all that Skool offers, let’s evaluate if it’s worth the price.
Is Skool Worth the Price?
An overwhelming yes!
For just $99 a month, you get a vibrant community where members are incentivized to share relevant and valuable content, making it a great learning experience for everyone within the group. Plus, you get to add unlimited courses and schedule coaching and group events, all for one flat price.
With so many options, you can create multiple revenue streams that increase your profitability. Also, when you continue to add more value to members with different streams, more people are likely to join your community, resulting in a multiplier effect.
Though Skool doesn’t offer all the features of a standalone platform, still it’s great value for money. For example, Skool doesn’t offer the option to evaluate your students’ learning with quizzes and assessments, but still, you can interact with them and gain valuable feedback. More importantly, you get to do all of these through a single platform.
When you consider all that you can do with Skool, $99 feels like a steal.
